Our approach to learning at the nursery

Bilingual Day Nursery Ravenstone adheres to a holistic approach of early childhood education. When we expose children to different environments and various learning experiences, we allow them to explore their self-awareness and gain a sense of the world around them. Once they leave our Nursery, they’re fully prepared for the next stage of their young lives.

We follow an 'interest-based' approach to the children's learning opportunities. The staff create ideas for a mixture of child-led and adult-led activities, as well as enhancing the continuous provision, through the children's interests to support the development of their next steps and introduce new learning. However, sometimes interests change or a learning opportunity has arisen, so for that day the 'plan' won’t happen because our children just want to play! Therefore we work around their interests: if your child likes to play with cars and is interested in cars but on the plan it says gardening then we won’t do gardening we will learn more about vehicles. We will always encourage all children to join in!

We will never sit a child down and make them do an activity during a circle time activity. We believe in learning through play, not sitting down and doing a lesson! With the pre-schoolers we get them ready for school by encouraging to sit and listen to a story for an increasing length of time ot support the development of listening and concentration before 'carpet time' when they go to school.
